Violoncello by Karel Zadražil, Luby

This violoncello bears a label of Karel Zadražil, Luby. Luby (formerly Schönbach) is regarded as one of the most important centres of Bohemian string instrument making and looks back on a violin-making tradition spanning several centuries.

The cello features a two-piece back of strongly figured maple with regular flame patterning. The ribs and neck are made from matching maple, while the table is made of spruce with even growth rings. The transparent golden-orange varnish highlights the natural structure of the woods.

Cellos by Karel Zadražil are regarded by musicians as reliable professional playing instruments with a warm, carrying tone and good response.

Cello “Markneukirchen”

A very beautiful cello, estimated to have been made around 1900. It originates from Markneukirchen. The instrument has been very well restored, preserving its character and craftsmanship while ensuring excellent condition.

German cello without note

Cello Alois Sandner

This cello is in mint condition and represents the finest quality offered by Alois Sandner at the time of its manufacture. 

The instrument features beautifully and evenly flamed maple. The label inside reads:

“Alois Sandner
Streichinstrumente Mod. Nr. 1a Cello Strad 1985″

Cello "Reconstruction"

This cello was created using an old back plate and scroll dating from around 1900 as its starting point. Based on these original components, a rib structure was constructed, allowing the ribs to be shaped and fitted. A new top was then carefully crafted to match the back.

The red-brown varnish beautifully enhances this unique blend of old and new, resulting in a distinctive and harmonious instrument.

Cello by "Masterpiece Marion Michael"

A masterfully crafted instrument made by the violin maker Marion Michael. The back, ribs, and scroll are fashioned from beautifully figured European maple and have been carefully assembled with great attention to detail. The top is made from spruce.

The varnish, produced in the maker’s own workshop, features a rich dark brown-red color. This cello has been crafted entirely by hand.

Cello "Masterpiece by Marion Michael 2022"

A masterfully crafted instrument made by the violin maker Marion Michael.

The back, ribs, and scroll are made from European maple and have been carefully assembled by hand. The top is crafted from spruce. This cello is based on the maker’s own model. The scroll is carved after a design by the renowned scroll carver Lafille.

The oil varnish, produced in the maker’s own workshop, has a rich dark brown-red color and is finished with an attractive craquelure effect.

The cello has been crafted entirely by hand. As can be heard in the sound sample, it possesses a balanced, full, and pleasantly warm tone.

Cello L. Sanavia

Leone Sanavia (1907–2004) was an Italian violin and lute maker from Liettoli, near Venice. After spending time in France, he returned to his native region, where he devoted himself to the construction of plucked and bowed string instruments.

Instruments by Leone Sanavia were played by professional musicians both in Italy and abroad.

The label inside reads:

“Leone Sanavia – Liutaio
Fece nell’anno 1967
a Liettoli (Venezia)”

Cello Valentin Kaiser in Passau

This beautifully handcrafted cello has been played for years by a very good player. The instrument is therefore perfectly tuned.

Cello with label "Pierre Silvestre"

Cello with label: “Pierre Silvest A Lyon 1845”

Jean-Christophe Graff Luthier- Expert issued a certificate for this instrument on April 28, 2016.
He certifies that Sebastien Augustin DEROUX à Paris ~ 1890 made this beautiful cello.
He chose the model by Guarneri del Gesu.
The oil varnish is interspersed with craquelure.

In the encyclopedia of violin making by Karel Jalovec, the following is written about Deroux:

Deroux Sébastien August, Paris Geb. 29.6.1848 in Mirecourt, d. 8.9.1919. Son and pupil of Georges Deroux, worked for three years with Silvestre in Lyon and eleven years with Miremont. Became self-employed in 1884 and enjoyed a good reputation as a violin maker and repairer. Worked according to Italian models and used oil varnish.
