Caring for Your Instrument: When to Handle It Yourself and When to Seek Expert Help

A fine string instrument is like a faithful companion – with proper care, it will reward you with beautiful sound for a lifetime. In our shop, we witness daily how simple maintenance steps can make an enormous difference. Here we share our expertise with you!

✅ What You Can Do Yourself – Easier Than You Think!

The Quick Care Routine Before and After Every Practice Session (Just 2 Minutes!)

– Always start with clean hands

– After the practice: Gently wipe down the strings and body od the instrument with a soft cloth

– Crucial step: Remove rosin dust – it’s the enemy of your varnish

– Loosen the bow hair – this preserves its elasticity and responsiveness

Protecting Your Precious Instrument

– Your case is your instrument’s second home

– Ideal conditions: 18-25°C (65-77°F) and 40-60% humidity (a small hygrometer in your case costs little but helps enormously!)

– Avoid heating vents, direct sunlight, and drafts – string instruments thrive on stability

The Bow – Often Overlooked, Yet So Important

– The secret to perfect rosin application: Less is more! Three to four strokes are sufficient

– A well-maintained bow makes playing easier and sounds better

📌 Our Tip

For winter concerts: After bringing your instrument in from the cold, let it acclimate in its closed case for at least 30 minutes. This prevents the most common cause of fine cracks in the wood.

In our shop, we combine traditional craftsmanship with personalized consultation. Visit us anytime – we’re always happy to help.
